Natick Mall Saves Local 4th of July Fireworks Celebration

Natick-- Faced with the certain cancellation of this year’s Fourth of July fireworks display, Natick Mall has again agreed to fund the celebration and preserve the town’s 50th annual fireworks event. Like last year when Natick Mall stepped forward to fund the $20,000 program, the local mall owners again agreed to support the traditional event.

“It is community-minded corporate citizens like General Growth Companies/Natick Mall that make Natick the special town that it is,” said Bruce Weisberg, Chairman of the Friends of the 4th. “I don’t know where this town would be without their citizenship and generosity.”

Natick Friends of the Fourth is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to creating Natick's annual July 4th celebration, and relies solely on contributions from the local community. After they announced that there would be no firework display for 2005 due to lack of funds, the Natick Mall stepped up to the plate to ensure continuation of a fifty-year-old tradition. Thanks to this generosity, the Friends of the 4th will once again be able to put on a fabulous fireworks display for the community. Donations are still needed to fund the many other July 4th events including the parade and may be sent to The Friends of the 4th of July, Inc at P O Box 27, Natick, MA 01760.

“The Fourth of July is really about community and citizenship, and we certainly count ourselves as citizens of this community,” said Natick Mall General Manager David Faulkner. “This event is very important to the local community, so we were happy to be able to support it.”

Natick Mall is owned and managed by General Growth Properties, Inc., the second largest U.S.-based publicly traded Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT). General Growth currently has ownership interest and management responsibility for a portfolio of 209 regional shopping malls in 44 states, as well as ownership in planned community developments and commercial office buildings. The company portfolio totals approximately 200 million square feet of retail space and includes over 18,000 retailers nationwide.
